Description
The Genoa – Hand-Forged Italian Bastard Sword (Late 1300s Replica) with Purple Grip
Inspired by the historical arms of late 14th-century Italy, The Genoa is a fully functional, hand-forged bastard sword designed by renowned swordsmith Bruce Brookhart.
Life in the Italian city-states during the 1300s was fraught with conflict—rivalries over trade, territory, and constant threats from the Ottoman Empire made weapons a daily necessity. This historically-inspired Italian bastard sword is not just a stunning collector's piece—it’s also battle-ready and highly practical for reenactors, collectors, and martial artists.
Authentic Design & Performance
The Genoa features a long ricasso that increases stiffness and offers excellent point control for thrusting techniques. Its hollow-ground 5160 tempered carbon steel blade balances cutting power with reduced weight, making it ideal for both single- and two-handed use. The grip—wrapped in dark purple leather—is ergonomically designed, allowing you to transition seamlessly from one-handed control to powerful two-handed cuts using the faceted scent-stopper pommel.
Specifications:
- Overall Length: 43"
- Blade: 35" long x 2" wide x 3/16" thick
- Weight: 3 lbs
- Point of Balance: 5" below the guard
Features:
- Hand-forged 5160 high carbon steel blade – sharpened and heat-treated for durability
- Authentically crafted – every element is hand-made to reflect period accuracy

This is truly an amazing sword. Upon holding it the balance well beyond any other sword in my collection, the sword felt very light and responsive to movement but still had lots of heft for heavy blows, the extended ricasso really does add major structural support to the blade. This is a Very Very fine sword and the quality is on par with Albion.
Very Nice picture. Thank you for sharing.
