Snikkar is based on Petersen Type D axe finds from throughout Scandinavia and England. The weight and shape of this axe make it well suited to a variety of tasks like splitting kindling and felling small trees. This axe is an absolute must for every living historian out there. During the Viking age, axes like this one were used by craftsmen and carpenters, and for many of the required daily tasks around the homestead. The story of Tyrker came to mind when this axe was held for the first time - he was the foster father of Leif Eriksson, accompanying Leif on his voyage to Vinland.
