Steel Buckler – 14" Medieval and Renaissance Shield with Domed Boss
Steel Buckler – This classic medieval buckler shield was widely used throughout Europe from the High Middle Ages into the Renaissance. Its compact size and ease of carry made it a favorite among both soldiers and civilians alike.
So iconic was its use in street duels and self-defense that it helped coin the term "Swashbuckler", referencing those who carried their bucklers on the belt or sword hilt while navigating city streets. This small round shield was also a staple among foot soldiers, archers, and swordsmen for its practicality and defensive utility.
Our handcrafted 14-inch steel buckler features a high-domed central boss, designed to deflect blows and redirect attacks away from the user. The slight curvature of the shield enhances its deflection capabilities. The central grip is made from solid steel, wrapped in string and covered in fine leather to ensure a secure, comfortable hold during training or combat.
